SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team travels north this weekend to face Minnesota on Sunday at Williams Arena. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
The Roadrunners enter the contest with a 1-3 record after a recent 66-60 win over UIW on Nov. 21.
Lapraisjah Johnson leads the team averaging 13.3 points per game. She's also averaging 3.8 rebounds and has nine assists, two blocks and three steals so far this season. Elyssa Coleman is right behind with 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The redshirt-freshman just earned C-USA Freshman of the Week honors after posting a double-double against UIW.
Recapping UIW
The Roadrunners garnered the first win of the season with a 66-60 victory over the Cardinals on Nov. 21 at the Convocation Center. Coleman, Johnson and Charlene Mass led the team with 14 points each.
UTSA gained an early start in the game and never looked back even though the Cardinals came with a few points multiple times. Scoring runs for the Roadrunners helped them hold onto the lead the entire 40 minutes.
Scouting Minnesota
Minnesota enters the game with a 5-3 record with wins over Arizona State, George Washington, American, Syracuse and most recently Bradley.
The Gophers hosted the Braves Friday evening and topped them 73-54. Sara Scalia led Minnesota with 19 points while Kadi Sissoko (12), Jasmine Powell (12) and Alanna Micheaux (10) also scored in double digits.
Scalia leads the team averaging 14.4 points per game, while Sissoko averages 7.0 boards a contest.
Last Meeting
This is just the third time the two squads are meeting. The last matchup was Dec. 31, 1984 when Minnesota won 86-72.
