Roadrunners come up short in battle to Bobcats

SAN ANTONIO – Lapraisjah Johnson scored 13 points as the Roadrunners came up short to Texas State Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.
 
The game started off tight as both teams hit multiple short scoring runs as the quarter was tied six times and had seven lead changes. Texas State hit a 4-0 run at the end to lead 23-18.
 
The Roadrunners came back in the second, opening with five consecutive points to tie the game at 23. The Bobcats then went on a 12-0 run to gain an advantage (35-23). Charlene Mass broke the scoring drought with free throws as UTSA hit a 6-3 run to close the gap to nine (38-29). The Roadrunners wrapped up the first half on an 8-4 scoring run to trail 45-37 at the break.
 
UTSA came out of the locker room on a 6-1 run to bridge the gap to three (46-43), but Texas State rallied and went on another 12-0 scoring surge to lead 58-43 with 1:57 remaining in the quarter. Queen Ulabo made a layup and drew a foul at the 1:40 mark and Leslie Hunter hit a layup as the Roadrunners closed out the third on a 5-2 run to trail 60-48 going to the fourth.
 
The final 10 minutes was a battle for the ball. Lapraisjah Johnson led the team with five points in the quarter as the Bobcats just outscored the Roadrunners 16-14 to claim the game 76-62.
 
The Roadrunners return to the court on Sunday when they host UIW at 12 p.m.
