ABILENE, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball team fell to Abilene Christian 72-53 Saturday evening.
The Roadrunners were off to a slow start as the Wildcats held a 6-2 lead until the 5:08 mark and UTSA hit a 7-0 run to take the lead (9-6). ACU came back and tied the game at nine with 2:46 remaining. The Wildcats finished the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 16-11.
ACU kept the momentum going as they opened the second on an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 13 (24-11) at the 6:23 mark. For a three minute span, both teams struggled to find the basket as they only scored five points each and the Wildcats led 29-16. Elena Blanding made a layup at the 2:08 mark, but ACU went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead (35-18) at the break.
Coming out of the locker room, the teams battled for the ball as the Roadrunners outscored the Wildcats 8-7 at the 5:30 mark. ACU then hit a scoring surge and went into the fourth with a 53-26 lead.
In the final 10 minutes, the Wildcats continued to find the basket to lead 61-28 until the Roadrunners hit an 8-0 run to close the gap to 25 (61-36) with 5:46 remaining. UTSA finished the game on a 17-11 run to close the gap, but it wasn't enough as ACU claimed a 72-53 win.
The Roadrunners return to the court on Nov. 18 when they host Texas State at 7 p.m.
