SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma used a 17-0 run to build an early first-half lead and fuel a 96-44 win over UTSA men's basketball, on Friday night at the Lloyd Noble Center.
UTSA (1-1) saw Oklahoma (2-0) erupt for 17 straight points in the first half as the Roadrunners went scoreless for a nearly nine-minute stretch that saw 13 missed shots.
A native of Kingston, Okla., Jacob Germany had six points and two rebounds. Sophomore guard Jordan Ivy-Curry finished with 10 points and three rebounds. Dhieu Deing, a 6-foot-5 guard, had a team-leading 15 points, including five made 3-pointers, adding three rebounds.
The Roadrunners were held to 23 percent shooting in the game, on 15 of 66 from the field, with Oklahoma shooting 58 percent on 39 of 67 shooting.
The Roadrunners return to action on Monday, hosting the first of a three-game multi-team event, welcoming Texas A&M-Commerce at 7:30 p.m. to the Convocation Center, in a game broadcast live on CUSA TV.
After an OU bucket to open the game, Ivy-Curry had a steal and finished in transition to even the game. Germany gave UTSA the lead after cleaning up the offensive glass.
The Sooners then went on a 17-0 run that saw the Roadrunners miss 13consecutive shots, with OU taking an 19-4 lead. Ivy-Curry snapped a nine-minute scoreless stretch with a bucket out of a timeout, cutting the lead to 19-6.
The lead grew to 23-6 before Germany sank a pair of post-move hook shots, sandwiched around OU buckets, with the Sooners taking a 28-10 lead into the final media break of the first half. The half ended on a 7-0 OU run to take a 33-10 lead. The Sooners shot 54 percent from the field in the half, while UTSA was held to five made buckets on 31 shots.
UTSA sank 10 shots in the second half, scoring 33 points.
