SAN ANTONIO – UTSA women's basketball head coach Karen Aston announced the addition of three signees to the 2022 Signing Class.
Madison Cockrell, Siena Guttadauro and Maya Linton will join the Roadrunners.
"This day is always an exciting day for college programs and for the young rising stars that make this their day," Aston said. "I am very grateful to our coaching staff, and current players for being THE part of this process. And of course, the student-athletes that are going to help our dreams and vision a reality here at UTSA. They all come from winning high school and club teams, and have families that thrive on culture, love, accountability and excellence. They will fit right into our circle of culture."
Madison Cockrell
"Madison Cockrell is a player I am super excited to join our program," Aston said. "Maddie plays at a very high pace, can guard the ball and can shoot the three. What I love the most, is her communication skills on the court and off. She has a very infectious personality and has a zest for life that is fun to be around. Maddie also plays for legendary Texas high school coach Andy Zihlman at Bishop Lynch. Having already won a state championship, she will bring a winning mindset with her to UTSA."
Cockrell joins Roadrunners after being a four-year letter winner, three of which at Bishop Lynch High School under head coach Andy Zhilman. She received District Defensive Player of the Year during her junior campaign. Cockrell was also named First Team All-State in 2021 and All Tournament at the 2021 State Tournament where she helped the Friars to a state championship. In her junior season, she recorded 10 points, 6.5 assists, three steals and three rebounds per game.
"Maddie Cockrell has developed into one of the top High School point guards in the State," Zhilman said. "Her ambition and relentless work ethic to continuously get better has helped her reach that level! She is high energy and has a fast-running motor! Can't wait to see her at the next level!"
Siena Guttadauro
Guttadauro comes to the Alamo City after playing three seasons at Archbishop Mitty High School under head coach Sue Phillips. She is part of the San Jose Cagers, a premier club that dons a 90 percent winning percentage.
"Siena is a crafty playmaker with dynamic ball skills and a high basketball I.Q.," Phillips said. "Siena is a winner, a worker and will bring that competitive mentality to UTSA. Siena is thrilled to be a Roadrunner and super excited to play for Coach Aston and her staff. Go Roadrunners!"
Guttadauro helped the Monarchs to two league and section finals. She was part of the 2020 Northern California Championship team. She averaged 4.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in her junior season.
"Siena is again, a very special young lady that comes from a traditional powerhouse high school program in California, led by Coach Sue Phillips," Aston said. "She has a very clear understanding of work, playing with IQ and having a winning mentality. Siena will bring guard depth to our team, in particular at the Combo guard position. She has play making ability, deep shooting range and more than anything, a very high ceiling for growth."
Maya Linton
Linton joins UTSA from Duncanville High School coached by LaJeanna Howard. She was a four-year letter winner in her high school career. Linton helped the Panthers to a Bi-District and area title. She is part of the Drive Nation 17U EYBL club team.
"I am so excited to bring Maya into the fold here at UTSA," Aston said. "I love players with motors that run, and are what I call 'ball magnets.' Maya clearly fits this mold, and will make an impact on our program with her competitive edge and ability to give your team extra possessions. I sound like a broken record, but she also comes from a high school program in which Coach LaJeanna Howard demands excellence in all areas. Maya will be ready to defend, run and play at a high pace. It will be exciting to see where her work takes her in Roadrunner country."
Linton has received Defensive Player of the Year honors during her time at Duncanville. She has been awarded Second Team All-District and All-District Academic honors during her four years on the varsity squad.
"Maya is a low post performer who will excel at the next level," Howard said. "Her relentless pursuit for the basketball is unmatched, arguably being one of the nest rebounders in the state."
