SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to UAB Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
The Blazers opened the match with an early 3-1 lead until the Roadrunners were able to tie things up at three. UTSA went on a 5-0 run to lead 8-5, then UAB hit a 3-0 run to tie the set once again (8-8). The set stayed close until UAB hit a 6-2 run to lead 21-18. After a timeout, the Blazers finished on a 3-0 run to take the first 25-20.
In the second, the set was close until a point surge from the Roadrunners put them on top 8-4. Both teams hit multiple short runs as they battled it out until the end. The set was tied 16 times and had eight lead changes as UTSA clinched with a 31-29 win.
The battle continued in the third as the set stayed close until UAB hit multiple scoring runs to gain an advantage and take the set 25-21.
The Blazers kept the momentum going in the fourth as they took an early lead and held onto it until the final point.
The Roadrunners return to the court Oct. 21-22 when they travel up I-35 to play North Texas.
