UTSA travels to face Marshall Friday

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer will look to make it two conference wins in a row, as they travel to Huntington, W.Va. to face Marshall this Friday at 6 p.m. The match will be played at Hoops Family Field and will be streamed on ESPN+. 
  
In their last outing, the Roadrunners (6-4-1, 1-2-0 in C-USA) defeated conference power North Texas (6-3-3, 1-2-1 C-USA), 1-0. Redshirt junior Abby Kassal scored the game-winning goal off of a penalty kick in OT. UTSA drew the penalty kick opportunity four minutes into the overtime period. Kassal then converted the penalty with a hard-hit shot at the left post to lift the Roadrunners to victory.
  
It marked UTSA's first win over the Mean Green since 2016, snapping a four-match losing streak to the league power, who had outscored UTSA 12-0 over the last four meetings.
 
The Roadrunners now hold a goal differential of 13-11 on the season. UTSA is averaging 1.18 goals per game and is shooting 40% of their total shots on net. The Roadrunners are averaging 13.8 shots per game. Through three games of conference play, UTSA holds a 49-30 shot advantage, a 21-12 shot on goal advantage and a 17-12 corner kick advantage. 
  
UTSA goalkeeper Jil Schneider has saved 34 shots and posts a 0.98 goals against average. UTSA has seen nine different players score through 11 games this season. Ellis Patterson leads the offensive charge, as she has three goals this season. Anna Sutter and Kendall Kloza each have two goals to their name. Alissa Stewart and Patterson lead the squad with three assists on the year and seven other Roadrunners have notched at least one assist. Patterson leads the team in points scored with nine and shots attempted with 25. 
  
Marshall enters the game on Friday with a 3-7-2 record overall and a 0-3-1 C-USA record. The Thundering Herd have been outscored by opponents 21-12 this season and average one goal scored a game. Marshall is led offensively by freshman forward Meg Jarvis, who has five goals scored on the year. Marshall has played two goalkeepers throughout the season. Courtney McVicker has allowed nine goals in seven games, and Mira Pastoft has allowed 12 goals in 11 games.
  
This matchup will mark the fifth meeting between UTSA and Marshall. The two programs each enter the match with two wins in the series. The most recent meeting between the teams was October of 2019 when UTSA traveled to Marshall and won 3-2.
