Rome leads UTSA to eighth at Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS — Michael Rome tied for 14th place to lead the UTSA men's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 71/7,330 yards).
 
Rome finished at 1-under-par 212 to help the Roadrunners place eighth with an 866 (279-296-291) in the 14-team field. UTSA was six shots ahead of Abilene Christian (872), seven in front of UNLV (873) and 12 better than Louisiana Tech (878) in the team race won by host SMU.
 
Rome opened the 54-hole event with a 3-under 68 on Monday morning and the Austin native bounced back from a 73 in round two with an even-par 71 that was highlighted by three birdies. He finished with 10 birdies to go along with 35 pars for the tournament.
 
Christian Fanfelle tied for 26th with a 3-over 216 (68-78-70). The all-conference performer from San Antonio led all Roadrunners in the final round with a 1-under-par scorecard that featured a pair of birdies. He wrote down a team-best 36 pars to go along with eight birdies at the event.
 
Hunter Bott finished with a share of 35th at 6-over 219. The junior from Montgomery opened with a pair of 72s on Monday before posting a 75 on Tuesday.
 
David Harrison and Jack Wehman ended up in a tie for 50th at 10-over 223. Harrison turned in an even-par 71 on Monday morning before recording 76s in the final two rounds, while Wehman had a 73 followed by two 75s to close out the week.
 
Competing as an individual, Reed Foster was 44th with an 8-over 221 (71-75-75).
 
The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 11-13 at the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Montgomery.
