Roadrunners come up short to UTEP

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to UTEP Friday evening at the Convocation Center.
 
The first set started close until the Miners hit a 3-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The remainder of the set stayed tight and each team hit multiple scoring runs and changed leads three times until UTEP was able to clinch the final two points and win the set 25-23.
 
The battle continued in the second as the teams fought for each point until the Miners hit multiple scoring runs to take a five point lead (19-14) and finish the set on top.
 
The Roadrunners made a comeback in the third. UTSA and UTEP stayed close until the set was tied at nine. From that point on, the Roadrunners took the lead and never looked back, hitting multiple scoring runs to claim the set 25-17.
 
The momentum continued in the fourth as UTSA took an early lead (6-3). The Roadrunners continued to score as they went on a 4-0 run to lead 12-6. Two more scoring surges helped UTSA garner the set and tie the match.
 
In the fifth, the Miners gained an early advantage (5-1) and held onto until the final point.
 
The Roadrunners and the Miners return to the court tomorrow at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
