HATTIESBURG, MISS. – UTSA soccer finished Thursday's match against division champion Southern Miss in a 1-1 draw. Roadrunner freshman forward Anna Sutter scored the only goal for UTSA in the 48th minute.
The draw concludes UTSA's conference slate of matches as they end the season with 12 conference points.
UTSA (9-4-4, 3-2-3 C-USA) and Southern Miss (8-3-3, 4-1-3 C-USA) played a scoreless first 45 minutes to start the match. UTSA's Anna Sutter broke the stalemate in the 48th minute of play, as she scored her seventh goal of the year. 20 minutes later the Golden Eagles found the equalizer as their own freshman star Ilana Izquierdo found the back of the net.
Following Izquierdo's score in the 68th minute, the two teams remained scoreless through the end of regulation. After 90 minutes and the score still at 1-1, the two teams entered overtime. This was UTSA's sixth match of the season that went to overtime.
In overtime, it was more of the same, as both teams played well defensively. Neither squad gave up a goal through the extra 20 and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
