UTSA’s Deja Sandoval named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week

SAN ANTONIO – After helping UTSA soccer defeat Marshall on the road, senior Deja Sandoval was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week by the organization.

Sandoval, a junior from Albuquerque, N. M., becomes the first UTSA player to be recognized with this award. Sandoval has earned three other awards during her time with the Roadrunners. She was named to the C-USA All-Freshman team, she earned a Defensive Player of the Week award (Oct. 21, 2019) and she was an honorable mention for the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week (Oct. of 2019 as well).

Sandoval helped lead the Roadrunner defense to a win over Marshall and held the Thundering Herd to only five shots (two on goal) and a shutout. She was second on the team with 16 interceptions in the match and won 72% of her defensive challenges. She also netted her first goal of the season (7th career) on two shots, all while playing the entire match.

UTSA (7-4-2) is off to the best start in school history, as the 7-4-2 mark is the program's highest winning percentage through 13 games. UTSA returns to action on Sunday, traveling to face Rice at 2 p.m. CT on CUSA.tv.
