After a defensively-dominated and scoreless first half, the second half saw four goals scored. It began in the 65th minute, when Louisiana Tech's Marcela Gallo buried a top-shelf cross-netter to put the Lady Techsters up 1-0.
Following Gallo's goal, UTSA was fouled on the offensive just two minutes later and drew a penalty kick. Senior captain Isa Hernandez stepped up and converted the PK to tie the match up at one apiece.
The match went scoreless for the next 20 minutes but in the second-to-last minute Louisiana Tech drew a penalty kick of their own and this time it was Josie Struder who put the Lady Techsters ahead, 2-1.
With only a minute and a half left in regulation, UTSA took the kickoff and began the offensive immediately. The Roadrunners got the ball down in the box and Kiran Singh drew the second penalty kick of the match. Marlee Fray converted the equalizer, as the match sat at 2-2.
After the frenzied finish, and with UTSA down a player, the two OT periods went by without a score, and the match ended 2-2 with both teams claiming a conference point.
Hernandez's goal tonight was her second of the season, and both have come off of penalty kick attempts. As for Fray, her penalty kick conversion was her first career goal scored.
UTSA and La Tech both had nine shots on the night, and the Roadrunners led the Lady Techsters in corner kicks, 5-3.
Following the match versus Louisiana Tech, UTSA (7-4-2, 2-2-1 C-USA) will now hit the road and travel to Houston to take on Rice. The match will be this Sunday, October 17, and will begin at 2 p.m. The match will take place at Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field and will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
