DALLAS – Aleksandra Zlatarova and Alexandra Weir were victorious with multiple bracket wins at the SMU Invite over the weekend.
Aleksandra Zlatarova and Alexandra Weir won the Turpin doubles bracket. The duo opened the tournament with a 6-3 win over Baylor, followed by a 6-3 win over their SMU opponent. In the championship, Zlatarova and Weir defeated Texas Tech 6-4 to win the bracket.
Also in doubles, Keegan McCain and Jasmin Starr won their first match, but fell to Baylor to move to the consolation bracket where they dropped a 6-1 match to Auburn. Eva Beyebach and Sophie Omoworare topped their first round opponent 6-3, but fell to UCA in the semifinals.
In singles, Zlatarova made it to the championship in the Blue Draw, but dropped a three-set match in the finals. She opened the tournament with a 6-7, 6-4, 10-6 win over Auburn, followed by a 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 win over TJC. In the final matchup, Zlatarova fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 to Texas Tech.
Weir won the Hilltop draw after defeating her NSU opponent 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 and TJC 1-6, 7-3, 12-10. In the championship match, Weir took on her own teammate Starr and won 7-6, 3-6, 10-8 to clinch the draw.
The Roadrunners return to the court Oct. 14-18 for the ITA Regionals in Fort Worth.
