MONTGOMERY, Texas — Buoyed by a 3-under-par scorecard from Christian Fanfelle, the UTSA men's golf team moved up the leaderboard Tuesday at the Bentwater Intercollegiate at Bentwater Country Club's Miller Course (par 71/6,788 yards).
Fanfelle posted a 68 on the strength of four birdies to help the Roadrunners card a 290 and jump from eighth place and into sixth after 36 holes of the tournament. UTSA is one shot ahead of a tie between Rice and South Dakota State and the Roadrunners trail Texas State by two strokes and Florida Atlantic by three with 18 holes left to play.
Michael Rome leads UTSA's lineup, as the senior is tied for 15th at 3-over 145. After opening with a 74 on Monday, the Austin native fired an even-par 71 behind a trio of birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 15-16.
Fanfelle grabbed a share of 24th after his 68 that included three birdies as part of a 33 on the front nine, and the San Antonio native sits at 5-over 147 with one round left.
David Harrison also sits in the deadlock for 24th. The Trophy Club native had a 71 in the opening round and posted a 76 that was highlighted by two birdies on the back on Tuesday.
Jack Wehman is in a tie for 39th (74-75—149) and Hunter Bott is tied for 47th (75-76—151) to round out the lineup, while Patrick Kahanek is 53rd (76-77—153) while playing as an individual.
The final round is set for Wednesday and the Roadrunners will tee off from No. 1 beginning at 8:09 a.m.
