Duplessis tabbed C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week

DALLAS — UTSA place-kicker Hunter Duplessis has been named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the season-opening victory against Illinois, the league office announced on Monday.

Duplessis opened the 2021 campaign by making all three of his field goal attempts and going 4 for 4 on extra points in UTSA's 37-30 road win over the Illini on Saturday night. The senior all-conference performer drilled a pair of field goals in the second quarter to help hand the Roadrunners a 20-14 halftime advantage, and his third make of the night late in the third stanza gave the visitors a 23-17 lead. Duplessis, a 2020 Lou Groza Award semifinalist who is on the watch list this year, now has made 29 of 34 field goals (85%) for his career. Saturday marked the third three-field-goal game of his career.

This is the second C-USA weekly award of Duplessis' career, as he was honored after making all three field goals, including the game winner in the second overtime of the 51-48 season-opening road triumph over Texas State last year.

Charlotte's Chris Reynolds and Marshall's Eli Neal collected C-USA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively. The 2021 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by a panel of the league's media.

The Roadrunners will host Lamar (1-0) this Saturday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Alamodome and the game will air on ESPN3 and Ticket 760 AM. For tickets, call or text 210-458-UTSA (8872) or click here
