OXFORD, Miss. – The UTSA volleyball team went 1-1 on Friday after dropping a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-14) match against Ole Miss and sweeping Northwestern State (25-16, 25-16, 25-15) on Friday at the Ole Miss Invitational.
Ole Miss
The Roadrunners stuck with the Rebels in the first set and were able to tie things up at nine all. The Rebels hit a 4-0 run to take the lead the remainder of the set but UTSA wasn't far behind as Ole Miss won the first.
Opening the second set, the Roadrunners took an early lead, but the Rebels were able to come back and tie the set 15-15. Ole Miss finished the set with a 9-5 run to lead 2-0.
The Rebels kept the momentum going in the third with an early 6-1 lead and continued to score to sweep the match.
Northwestern State
UTSA swept Northwestern State for the first sweep and win of the season.
Opening the match, the Roadrunners scored early, but NSU rallied back and tied at 10. UTSA had a couple of short runs to take back the lead and hold onto it until the end of the set.
The second set started out close as the Roadrunners and Lady Demons were tied 3-3 until the Roadrunners hit a point surge and were able to get a five-point spread on Northwestern State. Closing out the set with a 10-3 run helped UTSA lead 2-0 overall.
In the third, the Roadrunners opened with three consecutive points, but the Lady Demons tied it up and took the lead until a 9-0 run put UTSA back on top for the remainder of the match.
The Roadrunners return to the court tomorrow at 11 a.m. for a matchup against Coastal Carolina to close out the Ole Miss Invitational.

- Senior Hannah Lopez led the team with 12 kills on the day and was just shy of a double-double with nine digs.
