UTSA looks to extend historic start vs. unbeaten Red Raiders

SAN ANTONIO – Coming off their third shutout on the year and fourth straight win, UTSA soccer will travel to Lubbock to take on the unbeaten Texas Tech Red Raiders Sunday night at 7 p.m. The game will be played at the John Walker Soccer Complex and will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
UTSA (4-1-0) will face off with Texas Tech (4-0-1) in the second game of a two-game road trip. The first part of the two-game road trip saw the Roadrunners defeat the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday by a score of 1-0. Prior to the game on Wednesday, the Roadrunners took down previously unbeaten Grand Canyon at home, 2-1.
 
The Roadrunners are amidst the best start in program history as they prepare to face the Red Raiders. The Roadrunners also are on the third longest winning streak in program history as they've now won four straight games. That's the longest streak since the 2009 squad won five in a row.
 
In the win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTSA senior Kendall Kloza scored the lone goal. The game winner came off of an Ellis Patterson corner kick. UTSA got a clean sheet from Jil Schneider which marked her third shutout on the season. As for the game vs. Grand Canyon, UTSA got goals from both Isa Hernandez and Sarina Russ, with Hernandez and Ellis Patterson picking up assists. 
 
The Roadrunners have a goal differential of 9-3 on the season. UTSA is averaging 1.8 goals per game and is shooting 47% of their total shots on net. The Roadrunners are averaging 12.2 shots per game.
 
Schneider has saved 20 shots and posts a 0.6 GAAVG. UTSA has seen six different players score through five games this season. Patterson, Kloza and Anna Sutter lead the way with two goals scored a piece. Russ, Hernandez and Jordyn Hyland each have scored one goal this season. Alissa Stewart and Patterson lead the squad with two assists on the year and four other Roadrunners have an assist to their name. Patterson leads the team in points scored with six.
 
Texas Tech (4-0-1) is undefeated and riding their own three-game winning streak as they enter this Sunday's contest. In the Red Raiders' last game, they defeated Cal State Fullerton 2-1. Last season the Red Raiders posted a 5-6-2 record, including an 2-5-2 mark in conference play and a 4-1-1 record at home. Kirsten Davis and Macy Schultz lead Texas Tech with three goals scored a piece this season. Madison White, the Red Raiders goalie, has allowed only two goals through five games and has saved nine shots. White also boasts three clean sheets on the year.
 
This will mark the sixth meeting between UTSA and Texas Tech, with the Red Raiders having never lost. The last time the two squads met, Texas Tech won by a score of 4-0.
