COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Behind top-15 finishes from Maddie Boswell and Abby Balli, the UTSA women's cross country team raced to a fourth-place showing at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Roadrunners tied for seventh place in the men's competition behind top-50 performances from Jake Smith and Harrison Wade at Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
Competing in her first race as a Roadrunner, Boswell was the sixth runner to cross the finish line in the women's 5k. The transfer from Texas clocked a time of 17:54.2 for fifth among collegians.
Meanwhile, Balli placed 14th with an 18:25.5 clocking in her first race of the season, as the Pasadena native was 12th among collegiate runners.
Chante Dixon was the third Roadrunner to cross, finishing 39th in 19:37.0, while Lily Morrill was close behind in 45th (19:50.4). Savana Alt finished 56th (20:33.1) and Joy Ojeda was two spots back in 20:39.1. Carolina Ortiz and Brooke Veltman placed 64th (20:58.4) and 65th (21:05.5), respectively to close out the UTSA lineup.
UTSA tallied 122 points for fourth in the nine-team women's field, 13 points ahead of North Texas in the race won by Texas A&M (23).
Smith and Wade paced the men in the 8k race. Smith, a Yuma, Ariz., native, clocked a time of 25:11.7 for 39th place, while Wade, an Australian, was 46th in 25:27.5.
Michael Parades was the third Roadrunner to place, running 26:01.7 to finish 66th. JD Corona was close behind in 71st (26:08.8), while Luke Lawhorn and Hunter Haynes finished 75th (26:16.3) and 76th (26:20.5), respectively.
Adan Hernandez clocked a 26:42.6 for 81st and Idol Ramon was 85th in 26:56.5. Josh Gonzalez (92nd/27:32.2) and Brandon Beckham (101st/29:17.2) rounded out the lineup.
The Roadrunners will return to the course next Saturday, Oct. 2, at the UIW Invitational.
