SAN ANTONIO – Kirby Smith and Courtney Walters posted double-doubles as the Roadrunners swept Louisiana Tech in the conference opener Friday evening.
The Lady Techsters took an early lead in the first (10-5) until UTSA hit a 5-2 run to tie things up at 13. LA Tech hit a scoring surge to lead 24-18 but the Roadrunners came back and tied the set at 24. The remainder of the set stayed tight until UTSA finished with three-consecutive points to lead 1-0 (30-28).
The Roadrunners kept the momentum going in the second and third sets as they gained early leads and recorded big kills to stay in top. The Lady Techsters tried to rally, but short runs for UTSA helped clinch the match.
The Roadrunners and the Lady Techsters return to the court tomorrow at 12 p.m.
