SAN ANTONIO – For the second-consecutive match, Kirby Smith and Courtney Walters each recorded a double-double as the Roadrunners defeated the Lady Techsters 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
UTSA gained an early start (4-1) in the first and held onto that momentum the entire set. The Roadrunners hit multiple short scoring runs as they were able to push the lead and finish on a 7-1 run for a 25-15 win.
In the second, the UTSA energy continued. The Roadrunners gained an eight-point lead (11-3) after hitting a 9-0 run. The Lady Techsters came back with two 4-0 runs, but it wasn't enough as UTSA took the second to lead 2-0.
LA Tech opened the third with a 3-0 run and held onto the lead until the Roadrunners were able to tied things up at 13. The teams battled it out until the end when the Lady Techsters finished on a 5-0 run to claim the set.
The fourth set stayed tight until UTSA hit a scoring surge and gained a seven-point lead (16-9). The Roadrunners finished the match with a 15-4 run to clinch the win.
UTSA returns to action Oct. 1-2 at Southern Miss.
