KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Hannah Holzmann is in the top 20 and the UTSA women's golf team is in seventh place after the first day of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Cherokee Country Club (par 71/5,946 yards).

Holzmann is part of a nine-way tie for 16th at 2-over-par 144 through 36 holes, helping the Roadrunners post rounds of 290 and 289 to grab sole possession of seventh in 17-team field. UTSA is one shot ahead of Kent State and four in front of Maryland while it sits only five strokes out of the top five with 18 holes left to play.

Holzmann, an all-conference performer from San Antonio, opened the tournament with a 2-under 69 that was highlighted by a pair of birdies and an eagle on the 502-yard, par-5 fifth hole. She birdied two more holes as part of a 75 in the afternoon and is two shots out of a tie for seventh in the 90-player field.

Camryn Carreon and Ana Gonzalez each have a share of 25th at 3-over 145. Carreon, a San Antonio native, wrote down four birdies in each of her rounds of 73 and 72 on Monday. Gonzalez, a four-time all-conference honoree form Mexico, totaled five birdies on the day including a pair in an even-par 71 in the afternoon.

Hunter Nugent is in a tie for 36th after registering a 74-73—147 and Nicole Polivchak rounds out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 41st (75-73—148).

BYU and host Tennessee share the team lead at 3-over par, while BYU's Kerstin Fotu fired a 6-under 136 (68-68) to grab a two-shot lead in the individual race.
