UTSA to host Lone Star Invitational this week

SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off a runner-up showing last week, UTSA will host the Lone Star Invitational on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 20-21, at TPC San Antonio Oaks Course (par 72/7,435 yards). Admission is free.

The Roadrunners, who are ranked 39th in the latest Golfweek collegiate team rankings, will welcome Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, UIW, UT Arlington, UT Martin and UTRGV to the Alamo City.

The field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round is slated for Tuesday with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts scheduled for both days.

UTSA finished second at the season-opening Jim Rivers Intercollegiate last week in Choudrant, La. Hunter Bott placed fourth with a 7-under-par 209 (74-65-70) and Christian Fanfelle tied for fifth with a 6-under 210 (70-70-70) to lead the Roadrunners to a 16-under 848, tied for the seventh-best 54-hole score in program history.

The Roadrunners won the Lone Star Invitational team title in 2018 with a 2-over 578 in a rain-shortened event at TPC San Antonio. Sean Meehan tied for individual medalist honors with a 4-under 140 to lead the way. That 2018 event marked the first time it was held at TPC San Antonio, and the tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
