Roadrunners drop tight contest to Raiders

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Kirby Smith recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 22 digs as the Roadrunners dropped a 3-2 decision to Wright State Saturday afternoon at the Marquette Invitational.
 
The first set started off close until the Raiders took a 7-3 lead to gain an early advantage. The Roadrunners hit a 6-0 run to tie things up at 12, then took the lead (15-12). The teams were tied once more at 16 until Wright State finished the set on a 10-1 run and lead 1-0.
 
The battled continued in the second as the set was tied six times until UTSA hit a 5-0 run to gain a seven-point lead (15-8). The Roadrunners hit another point surge to garner the set 25-14 and tie the match.
 
Both teams maintained their momentum through the third as the set stayed tight until the Raiders finished with a 7-2 run and lead the match 2-1.
 
The Roadrunners clinched the fourth set 25-20 to tie the match 2-2 and force as fifth set.
 
Wright State garnered the fifth closing out the match with a 8-0 run to win 15-11.
 
Smith earned a spot on the All-Marquette Invitational Team.
