MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The UTSA volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Marquette and a 3-1 match to Northern Iowa on Friday at the Marquette Invitational.
Marquette
Marquette took an early lead in the first set (7-2). The Roadrunners hit a point surge to bridge the gap to two, 9-7, but the Golden Eagles continued to stay on top to garner the first set 25-18.
The second set started out close as the teams were tied 4-4 until Marquette hit a 5-0 run to lead 9-4. Two more short runs from the Golden Eagles helped them clinch the set 25-12.
Marquette kept the momentum going in the third hitting multiple surges to claim the match.
Northern Iowa
Northern Iowa gained an early lead (4-1) to start the match, but UTSA came back to tie things up 10-10. The Panthers and the Roadrunners battled it out the remainder of the set at it was tied eight more times until UNI was able to score the final two points to win 25-23.
The battled continued in the second as the teams remained close until UTSA hit a 6-0 run to lead 12-8. Northern Iowa hit a couple of short runs, but the Roadrunners were able to win the set 25-22 and tie the match.
The Panthers had early leads in the final two sets as they remained close until a late advantage from UNI garnered the match.
The Roadrunners return to the court tomorrow when they face Wright State at 1 p.m.
