Nugent, Roadrunners notch top-10 finishes at Sam Golden Invitational

DENTON, Texas — Hunter Nugent tied for 10th place and the UTSA women's golf team finished ninth at the Sam Golden Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Wildhorse Golf Club (par 72/6,288 yards).
 
Nugent carded an 8-under-par 208 to move from a tie for 18th into a share of 10th in her Roadrunners debut. The UIndy transfer opened with a 70-71—141 on Monday and then fired a personal-best 5-under 67 on Tuesday. The Oakville, Ontario, native recorded five birdies during her final round, including four as part of a 4-under 32 on the back nine.
 
Behind Nugent's top 10, UTSA posted a 1-under 863 (286-293-284) to place ninth, four shots ahead of Houston (+3) in the 15-team field. The Roadrunners turned in a 4-under 284 in Tuesday's final round, which is tied for the 10th-best score in program history.
 
Nicole Polivchak joined Nugent below par, as the senior finished in a tie for 28th at 1-under 215. After posting a 70-72—142 on Monday, the Sarasota, Fla., native carded a 73 that featured birdies on three of the four par fives.
 
Camryn Carreon matched Polivchak with a final-round 73 and finished with a share of 46th at 4-over 220 after shooting 71-76—147 on the opening day.
 
Hannah Holzmann registered the second-best final-round score by a Roadrunner, as the all-conference performer had an eagle on the 503-yard, par-5 12th hole and a birdie on the 504-yard, par-5 eighth on Tuesday. The San Antonio native moved into a tie for 60th (224).
 
Ana Gonzalez rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 65th (75-74-76—225).
 
Oklahoma State claimed the team title with a 36-under 828, followed by Texas Tech (-23), TCU (-21), Texas A&M (-20) and Oklahoma (-17) in the top five. Texas A&M's Blanca Fernandez Garcia-Poggio won the individual crown (-14).
 
The Roadrunners will return to the course next Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 20-21, when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
