DENTON, Texas — Hunter Nugent posted a pair of under-par rounds to lead the UTSA women's golf team on the opening day of the Sam Golden Invitational, which teed off on Monday at Wildhorse Golf Club (par 72/6,288 yards).
Nugent is in a tie for 18th place at 3-under-par 141 after 36 holes and the Roadrunners are in 11th place at 3-over par in the team standings, three shots ahead of Houston and only four strokes out of a tie for ninth between Kansas State and North Texas.
Playing in her first tournament as a Roadrunner, Nugent opened her fall season by firing a 2-under 70 that was highlighted by three birdies. The transfer from UIndy followed that round with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon on the strength of three more birdies, including back-to-back in Nos. 2-3.
Nicole Polivchak matched Nugent with an opening-round 70, also writing down three birdies in the morning. The senior posted an even-par scorecard in the second round that featured three more birdies, and she is in a tie for 22nd at 2-under 142.
Camryn Carreon birdied four holes en route to turning in a 1-under 71 in the morning round. She circled three numbers during a 76 in the second round and the all-conference performer is tied for 43rd (+3).
Ana Gonzalez and Hannah Holzmann round out the UTSA lineup in 56th (75-74—149) and 73rd (76-77—153), respectively.
Oklahoma State has the 36-hole lead at 19-under par behind individual leader Caley McGinty (-10).
The final round is slated for Tuesday.
