COLLEGE STATION – The UTSA volleyball team was swept by Houston and Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at the Texas A&M Invitational.
Houston
The Cougars gained an early lead starting the first set with an 8-2 run. The Roadrunners were able to bridge the gap to three (14-11), but Houston continued to score and take the first set 25-21.
The second set was close as it was tied eight different times with multiple lead changes until the Cougars claimed a two-point lead towards the end to lead 2-0.
Keeping the momentum going, Houston earned another early lead to sweep the match.
Texas A&M
UTSA scored the first point, but a 7-0 run helped Texas A&M take an early lead to start the match. The Roadrunners hit a 4-0 run to close the gap to two (14-12), but another 7-0 run from the Aggies clinched the first set.
The remainder of the match was close until Texas A&M hit point surges towards the end of the last two sets to garner the win.
All-Tournament Team
Amanda Ifeanyi earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after posting a team-high 23 kills with 41 attacks on the weekend. She also recorded five digs, nine block assists and had 27.5 points for the Roadrunners.
