COLLEGE STATION – The UTSA volleyball team swept UAlbany Friday afternoon at the Texas A&M Invitational.
Opening the match, the Great Danes garnered the first two points, but the Roadrunners came back with a 3-0 run to take the lead. UAlbany scored a couple more points, followed by a 5-0 run from UTSA to lead 9-4. The Roadrunners hit another scoring surge to lead by 10 (18-8). UTSA finished the set with a 6-2 run.
The Roadrunners kept the momentum going in the second as they were able to gain an early advantage (9-5). Multiple short runs allowed UTSA to hang onto the lead until the final point.
In the third set, the Great Danes had a close lead, but UTSA came back and tied the set at seven after an ace from Mekaila Aupiu. The set stayed tight as both teams tied it up 13 times until the Roadrunners were able to get a two-point lead to clinch the set and the match.
The Roadrunners return to the court tomorrow when they take on Houston at 10 a.m. and Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m.
