McCormick lands on Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list

TYLER, Texas — UTSA running back Sincere McCormick has been named to the preseason watch list for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, it was announced Thursday at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler 15th Annual East Texas Kick-off Luncheon.

McCormick is one of 43 FBS players — including one of four from Conference USA — on this year's preseason list for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award one year after he was one of five finalists for the award.

This honor comes less than one week after McCormick was named to the preseason watch list for the Walter Camp Player of the Year. He also has cracked preseason lists for the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards in addition to being voted the 2021 C-USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

A product of Converse Judson High School, McCormick earned 2020 C-USA Offensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference accolades during a record-setting sophomore season. He eclipsed UTSA's single-season marks for rushing yards (1,467), touchdowns (11), carries (249), rushing yards per game (133.4) and all-purpose yards (1,598) en route to being named a second-team All-American by both Phil Steele and the Football Writers Association of America.

McCormick finished second in the nation among FBS players in rushing yardage after logging a conference-best seven 100-yard games, including a school-record 251 in the 49-17 win over North Texas. A preseason All-American by multiple national publications, he was the Dave Campbell's Texas Football College Player of the Year and a four-time C-USA Offensive Player of the Week pick last fall.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas high school and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

The watch list announced today will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to five finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for Jan. 12, 2022.
