Roadrunners fall in battle to No. 1 Texas

AUSTIN – The UTSA volleyball team fought until the very end as they fell to No. 1 Texas 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-15) Sunday afternoon at Gregory Gym.

The Longhorns started off strong, taking an early 7-1 lead. UTSA was able to score some points, but a 10-2 run from Texas extend the lead to 13 (19-6). The Roadrunners didn't let the point deficit keep them down as they finished the first set with an 11-6 run.

Keeping the momentum going, UTSA stayed within a few points of Texas through the second set until a couple of short runs pushed the lead keeping the Roadrunners from catching up.

The battle continued into the third set until the Longhorns were able to get a significant lead in the second half of the set to capture the win.

UTSA put up 28 kills and 25 digs on the day.

The Roadrunners return to action Sept. 3-4 in Oxford, Miss. for the Ole Miss Invitational. UTSA faces the Rebels on Friday at noon.

Notes

  • UTSA is 0-2 on the season
  • Hunter Coppola led the team with six kills, while Mia Ybarra led in digs with 10
