SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer standouts Kendall Kloza, Ellis Patterson and Deja Sandoval each earned All-Tournament honors over the weekend at the Cowgirl Invitational Tournament.
Kloza, Patterson and Sandoval each stood out during the weekend competition to open the 2021 season, earning three of the 11 spots on the Cowgirl Invite All-Tournament Team.
Kloza, a product of San Antonio's Lee High School, netted her third career goal as a game-winning tally on Sunday in a 3-0 rout of Tulsa. A senior defender, Kloza helped lead a UTSA defensive charge that limited No. 16 Oklahoma State to just 11 shots on Thursday in the season opener.
A team captain, Patterson netted her 17th career goal in the win over Tulsa in Stillwater. She has played in 62 games with 61 starts in her career, owning 17 goals, 13 assists and nearly 4,300 minutes played. She ranks among the UTSA career leaders in eight categories, including goals, assists and points.
Sandoval, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., helped lead UTSA's defensive line throughout the weekend in Stillwater. A junior defender, Sandoval has played in 30 matches with 28 starts, logging 2,641 career minutes. She owns six career goals, including a four-goal output as a freshman that included a pair of game winners.
UTSA (1-1) will return to action on Thursday, playing host to Cal Baptist in the home opener at 7 p.m. at Park West Athletics Complex. The game will be streamed live on CUSA TV.
