SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer has named standouts Isa Hernandez and Ellis Patterson team captains for the 2021 season, it was announced by head coach Derek Pittman on Thursday.
The Roadrunners will be led in the 2021 season by co-captains Hernandez, a junior out of Kyle, Texas, and Patterson, a native of Austin, Texas.
"When selecting our team captains each year, we want individuals that are selfless leaders that fight for our culture and core values daily," Pittman said. "Ellis and Isa are exactly that! They both give all they have to this team on and off the field every day. This honor is well earned and deserved by both of these strong young women. We couldn't ask for better leaders to take this program to new heights this season."
Hernandez, a product of Hays High School, is a two-year fixture on the pitch for the Roadrunners in the midfield. Hernandez has played in 40 career games with 29 starts, totaling two goals and four assists. She started all 11 games in an abbreviated spring season last year and made 15 of 17 starts as a sophomore in 2019. She has logged 2,472 minutes in her career.
A four-year standout for the Roadrunners, Patterson is in her super senior year in 2021. A product of Connally High School, Patterson is a three-time All-Conference USA selection. Patterson is one of the most prolific scorers in UTSA history, owning 16 goals and 13 assists (45 points) over the first four seasons.
Patterson has played in 60 games with 59 starts in her career, logging 4,147 minutes. She ranks fifth in UTSA history in points, sixth in game-winning goals (four), fourth in points per game (0.74), fourth in assists, seventh in shots on target (53), fourth in goals, second in assists per game (0.21), eighth in shots on goals per game (0.87), fifth in goals per game (0.26) and eighth in shots (100).
The Roadrunners open their 16th season on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at No. 16 Oklahoma State live on ESPN+.
