SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer will wrap up its preseason schedule on Sunday, playing host to St. Mary's at 7 p.m. at the Park West Athletics Complex.
UTSA will conclude its three-match preseason with the exhibition with St. Mary's on Sunday. The Roadrunners have played a pair of exhibitions in 2021, including a 3-1 comeback win at UIW and a scoreless draw at Texas State on Thursday.
The Roadrunners will open their 2021 season at No. 16 Oklahoma State on Thursday on ESPN+ at 7:30 p.m. in Stillwater, Okla.
UTSA's scoreless draw at Texas State saw keeper Jil Schneider work a shutout and the Roadrunners own a 16-5 advantage in shots, including a dominating first half that saw UTSA lead 9-1 in shots and have a goal disallowed after a foul was called. Schneider made both of her saves in the second half.
In UTSA's win at UIW last Sunday, the Roadrunners fell behind after a penalty kick goal in the first of three 30-minute periods but responded with goals from Helene Farris, Lexi Bolton and Lorelei Mauldin. Bolton, Mackenzie Kaufhold and Anna Sutter each had assists.
UTSA returns a bevy of talent from the 2020-21 season, including all 15 student-athletes who earned starts and 17 of 21 letterwinners. Alyssa Blankenship and Ellis Patterson return for their super senior years, with Blankenship owning 46 career games and Patterson a three-time All-Conference USA selection.
Bolton, who has started 33 of her 44 matches played through three years, owns nine goals and 25 points in her career, with UTSA also boosted by the return of standout centerback Kendall Kloza and midfielder Isa Hernandez.
In goal, Schneider made 10 of 11 starts in 2020-21 with a 1.26 goals-against average, owning 26 saves. Taylor Rath also started a game in goal, with a 1.64 goals-against average over four total games played.
NCAA Division II St. Mary's went 5-6 last season, including a 2-4 record in Lone Star Conference play. The Rattlers were led in scoring by Kyle Von Holle and Alex Lawrence, who each had five goals and 10 points. In goal, Cameron Koemer played in 10 of 11 games with a 1.06 goals-against average. As a team, St. Mary's averaged 2.27 goals per game, holding foes to a 0.90 goals-against average.
