Connor Barnard to join men’s tennis coaching staff

SAN ANTONIO – Connor Barnard has joined the UTSA men's tennis coaching staff as its new volunteer assistant coach, it was announced by head coach Sergey Avdeyev on Monday.

"Very excited to have Connor joining our team," Avdeyev said. "It's a great advantage to have a third coach on our staff. Connor brings valuable experience. He has finished masters in sport science and has worked multiple years as a personal coach and nutritionist. We can definitely use his knowledge to enhance our team performance. Welcome on board, Connor."

Barnard joins the Roadrunners coaching staff, led by Avdeyev and assisted by Cullen Dees, for the 2021-22 season. A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, he won a state championship in high school before becoming one of the top players in the history of Wartburg [Iowa] College, winning 47 singles points and 41 doubles decisions.

He has most recently served as a tennis professional in Reno, Nev., working with high-level high school athletes. Banard owns a degree from Wartburg in fitness management with minors in business administration and business leadership. He earned his graduate degree in kinesiology and sport performance from Northern Iowa.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the men's tennis coaching staff at UTSA," Barnard said. "I look forward to working alongside Coach Sergey and Coach Dees. I would like to extend a thank you to Coach Sergey for this opportunity. I can't wait to join the San Antonio and Roadrunner community."
