SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's tennis has signed Portugal standou tTomás Pinho for the 2021-22 season, it was announced on Thursday by head coach Sergey Avdeyev.
Pinho joins a summer signing class that incldes Miguel Alonso (Veracruz, Mexico) and Russian native Maxime Groysman (Bellevue, Wash.).
"Tomás is very talented player," Avdeyev said. "He was among the best juniors in Portugal and has posted many top wins. He has a lot of potential to be the best player in our league. We are excited to work with and help develop Tomás and take him to the next level."
Pinho has ranked as high as No. 387 in the International Tennis Federation and 12.56 in the Universal Tennis Rating rankings. His best win came against a No. 50 ITF and 13.6 ranking. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the G2, G3 and was a finalist of G5 twice. He was a winner in doubles in G5 and semifinalist in doubles in G2.
