Thornquist named semifinalist for Buster Posey Award

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA senior Nick Thornquist has been named one of 16 semifinalists for the 2021 Buster Posey Award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate catcher, it was announced.
 
Thornquist, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, is one of the top 16 catchers in college baseball and the only representative from Conference USA. The senior backstop leads all league catchers in homers (12) and RBI (44). He has hit .331 (56-for-169) with 44 runs, 10 doubles, one triple and a .615 slugging and a .441 on-base percentage. 
 
Thornquist has caught 80 percent of UTSA's games in 2021 and has thrown out 11 would-be base-stealers. In just conference games, he has hit .321 with nine homers and 29 RBI. Over his 108-game career, Thornquist has made 100 starts, hitting .314 with 31 doubles, four triples, 19 homers and 87 RBI. 
 
The Roadrunners will now return to action with the first round of league tournament play on May 26 in Ruston, La., vs. host No. 14 Louisiana Tech. at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
