UTSA earns 13 spots on C-USA Outdoor All-Conference Teams

DALLAS — UTSA earned a total of 13 spots on the Conference USA Outdoor All-Conference Teams, the league office announced on Thursday.

The Roadrunners had seven all-conference selections on the women's side and six on the men's teams, as the all-conference performers were determined based on finishes at the C-USA Outdoor Championships on May 13-16 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.  Individuals placing first in their events were named first team all-conference, those placing second were named second team all-conference and those placing third were named third team all-conference.

Maia Campbell, Faith Roberson and Amaya Scott all made the first team after grabbing gold medals and helping the UTSA women to a third-place finish with 106.75 points, the program's best conference outdoor showing since 2012.

Campbell smashed her own school record in the shot put with a winning mark of 17.33 meters (56-10.25), Roberson broke the meet and bettered her own UTSA standard in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.89 seconds and Scott tallied 5,516 points run away with the heptathlon crown.

Ingeborg Gruenwald and Alanah Yukich garnered second-team accolades after securing silver medals. Gruenwald leaped to a personal-best distance of 6.36m (20-10.5) and Yukich was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles with a PR clocking of 57.00 in a photo finish with Roberson.

Oreoluwa Adamson and Marilis Remmel were selected for third-team honors. Adamson collected the bronze medal in the long jump with a mark of 6.17m (20-3) and Remmel measured 46.56m (152-9) for third place in the javelin.

Jack Turner picked up first- and third-team honors after his performance at the C-USA Outdoor. The reigning C-USA Indoor Field Performer of the Meet broke a 19-year-old school record in the decathlon by scoring 7.659 points for top honors. The freshman from England also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 7.47m (24-6.25).

The UTSA men placed four athletes on the second team. Sam Healy was the runner-up in the long jump after touching the sand at a distance of 7.59m (24-11), while Joel McFarlane was second in the decathlon with a collegiate-best 7,148 points. Andrew Pirog crossed second in the 400m hurdles with a career-best clocking of 51.08 seconds and Grant Szalek secured silver with a mark of 15.63m (51-3.5) in the triple jump.
