Clark’s 71 paces UTSA on Tuesday at Kingston Springs Regional

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. — Collin Clark carded an even-par round to pace the UTSA men's golf team on Tuesday at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional.

Clark turned in a 71 on the 7,107-yard, par-71 Golf Club of Tennessee layout to lead the No. 9 seed Roadrunners to a 9-over 293 in the second of three rounds in their NCAA postseason team debut. UTSA entered the day in 10th place and remains in that position at 19-over 587, two shots ahead of No. 11 seed Loyola (Md.), 19 strokes in front of 12th-seeded UConn and 31 better than No. 13 Iona in the field.

Clark wrote down five birdies during his second round to match Chad Sewell for UTSA's low score of the tournament thus far. Teeing off from No. 10, the senior from Mansfield birdied three of his last four holes on the back en route to an even-par 35 on that side. He then had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1-2, giving him five on a six-hole stretch and a team-high seven for the week. Clark's 71 helped him move into a tie for 47th place at 4-over 146 with 18 holes remaining on Wednesday.

Sewell also has a share of 47th after posting a 75 on Tuesday. The senior all-conference performer birdied a pair of par 5s — the 565-yard fifth and 551-yard 11th — and the Conroe native now has six birdies for the tournament.

Michael Rome posted a 2-over 73 on the strength of birdies on the 433-yard, par-4 first and 580-yard, par-5 17th holes. After opening with a 75 on Monday, the Austin Westlake High School product now is tied for 53rd at 6-over 148.

Hunter Bott is tied for 60th at 9-over through 36 holes. The sophomore from Montgomery opened with a 73 before recording a 78 that was highlighted by a birdie on the 187-yard, par-3 14th.

Christian Fanfelle registered UTSA's other counting score on Tuesday with a 3-over 74. The two-time all-conference selection from San Antonio used a pair of birdies in his second round to help him bounce back from an 84 on Monday and move into a tie for 70th (+16).

No. 5 seed San Diego State moved to the top of the team leaderboard at 11-under 557 after Tuesday's round. Third-seeded and host Vanderbilt is second (-9), followed by No. 4 Arkansas (-5) and No. 2 NC State (-3), while top-seed Clemson and No. 7 Charlotte are in a deadlock for fifth (-2).

Youssef Guezzale of San Diego State and Reid Davenport of Vanderbilt are tied for first in the individual standings at 5-under 137.

The final round is scheduled for Wednesday and the Roadrunners will tee off from No. 10 beginning at 8:55 a.m.
