No. 8 UTSA upsets No. 5 Middle Tennessee in game one

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Home runs from Marena Estell and Riley Grunberg helped No. 8 seeded UTSA softball team upset No. 5 seeded Middle Tennessee 4-2 in the first round of the Conference USA Championship.
 
The Roadrunners were on the board in the second. With one out, Marena Estell hit the ball over the center field wall to take a 1-0 lead.
 
In the third, UTSA added four more runs to extend the lead. Kat Ibarra opened the frame with a single up the middle and Celeste Loughman followed with a walk. C-USA Hitter of the Week Riley Grunberg hit her fifth home run of the week to score Ibarra and Loughman and lead 4-0.
 
The Blue Raiders scored two runs in the fourth from a homer to close the gap to two, 4-2.
 
Senior Clarissa Hernandez earned the start, pitching 5.2 innings with two strikeouts and just one walk. Freshman Tatum Seith came in for the final 1.1 innings, had a strikeout and earned the save.
 
The Roadrunners will take on No. 4 seeded WKU at 5 p.m.
