Polivchak paces UTSA in second round of Louisville Regional

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. — UTSA senior Nicole Polivchak turned in a 1-over-par scorecard to lead the Roadrunners in the second round of the NCAA Louisville Regional on Tuesday at University of Louisville Golf Club (par 72/6,289 yards).
 
Polivchak's 73 helped No. 13-seed UTSA log a 298 on Tuesday for a five-shot improvement from its opening round. The Roadrunners are in 15th place (+25) with 18 holes remaining in their third straight and sixth overall NCAA postseason appearance. UTSA is four strokes in front of 16-seed Xavier and five ahead of No. 15 College of Charleston while sitting seven back of 17-seed James Madison and eight behind No. 10 Tennessee.
 
On the strength of a trio of birdies, Polivchak posted UTSA's low round of the second day. The senior wrote down a two on the 169-yard, par-3 eighth, a three on the 289-yard, par-4 15th and a four on the 478-yard, par-5 17th to pace the Roadrunners. Tuesday's scorecard marked a five-shot improvement from her opening round, as she moved into a tie for 50th place at 7-over.
 
Meanwhile, Ana Gonzalez continues to lead the UTSA lineup, as the senior from Mexico has a share of 38th at 5-over 149. After posting a 74 on Monday, the four-time all-conference performer registered a 75 that featured birdies on the eighth and 16th holes.
 
Katia Mexsen fired UTSA's second-best round of the day with a 2-over 74 to move into a tie with Polivchak for 50th. The junior from Mexico had birdies on the 526-yard, par-5 fourth and 173-yard, par-3 16th holes on Tuesday after opening the 54-hole event with a 77.
 
Hannah Holzmann and Camryn Carreon close out the UTSA lineup in 62nd (75-77—152) and 68th (77-76—153), respectively.
 
No. 2 seed Florida State (+1) maintained its position atop the team standings ahead of top-seed South Carolina and fifth-seeded Arkansas, who are tied for second at 5-over in the 18-team field.
 
Christin Eisenbeiss of North Florida is the individual leader at 6-under 138 (71-67).
 
The final round is scheduled for Wednesday and the Roadrunners will tee off from No. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
