UTSA to open busy week at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

SAN ANTONIO — The No. 26-ranked UTSA men's golf team will play the first of two scheduled tournaments this week when it travels to Houston for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday-Tuesday, April 5-6, at Westwood Country Club (par 72/7,184 yards).

The Roadrunners will face Abilene Christian, No. 42 Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, No. 49 Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Nicholls, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, South Alabama, Texas State and UTEP. The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

Ranked in the top 30 by Golfstat for the fourth straight week, UTSA will compete as a team for the first time since finishing second at the Trinity Forest Invitational on March 7-9 in Dallas. Chad Sewell tied for seventh place with a 1-over-par 214 (73-70-71), Collin Clark grabbed a share of 17th with a 218 (72-77-69) and Christian Fanfelle was 20th with a 219 (78-71-70) to help the Roadrunners card a 10-over 862 and finish ahead of three ranked teams.

Sewell, who was named C-USA Golfer of the Week on March 11 for that performance, will lead a lineup that includes, Fanfelle, Michael Rome, Hunter Bott and Clark, who will return to the Bayou City Collegiate Classic as the defending individual champion. The senior from Mansfield fired a 5-under 211 (70-68-73) for a one-shot win in 2019, helping lead the Roadrunners to a runner-up showing. Last year's event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The busy week will continue when UTSA travels to Bryan for the Aggie Invitational on April 9-11 at Traditions Club.
