BRYAN, Texas — The No. 33-ranked UTSA men's golf team finished 11th in a loaded field at the Aggie Invitational, which wrapped up on Sunday at Traditions Club (par 72/7,227 yards).
Led by a 34th-place finish from Michael Rome, the Roadrunners carded a 904 to finish one shot ahead of UNLV and eight in front of Rice in the 17-team field that included eight nationally ranked squads. UTSA was only five strokes out of tie for ninth place between No. 46 Houston and North Texas.
Rome fired an eighth-over-par 224 to top the UTSA lineup for the first time this season. The Austin Westlake High School product carded rounds of 74, 73 and 77 on the strength of six birdies and 34 pars while playing the par fours at 1-over for the week. It marked his second straight top-35 showing.
Chad Sewell posted the low score of the final round for the Roadrunners with an even-par 72 that was headlined by a trio of birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 14-15. The senior from Conroe ended up with a share of 52nd at 12-over 228, as he bounced back from a pair of 78s on the opening two days.
Hunter Bott and Christian Fanfelle finished as part of a six-way tie for 57th at 14-over 230. Bott, a sophomore out of Montgomery, closed with a 73 behind four birdies after opening with an 81-76—157. Fanfelle, a junior all-conference performer from San Antonio, carded rounds of 74, 76 and 80.
Collin Clark rounded out the UTSA lineup in 86th (74-87-79‑240), while Adam House matched Rome with a 224 (74-72-78) to tie for 34th while playing as an individual.
No. 12 and host Texas A&M claimed the team title on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff with top-ranked Oklahoma after both teams finished 54 holes in a tie at 2-over 866.
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett captured individual medalist honors with a 6-under 210 (68-70-72).
The Roadrunners now will turn their attention to the Conference USA Championship, which is scheduled for April 26-29 at Texarkana (Ark.) Country Club.
