Roadrunners soar into second place at Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS — Led by 1-under-par round from Chad Sewell on Monday, the UTSA men's golf team moved up the leaderboard and into second place on the second day of the Trinity Forest Invitational.

Sewell fired a 70 on the 7,330-yard, par-71 Trinity Forest Golf Club layout to help the Roadrunners post a 6-over 290 and leap three spots from fifth place and into second with 18 holes left to play on Tuesday. UTSA stands at 13-over 581 (291-290), one shot ahead of Little Rock, two in front of Sam Houston and four better than No. 18 North Texas. The Roadrunners also lead No. 38 TCU, which is in sixth (+18), and 37th-ranked Louisville (+22) in the 15-team field paced by host and No. 13 SMU (-4).

Sewell's 70 was headlined by four birdies, including three as part of a 2-under 34 that the senior posted on the front nine. The Conroe native is in a tie for seventh place in the individual race at 1-over 143, five strokes off the 4-under pace set by No. 65 Noah Goodwin of SMU.

Michael Rome moved into a six-way tie for 18th place at 4-over 146 after posting his second straight 73. The Austin Westlake High School product circled his score on a pair of par fours on the front and also birdied the 550-yard, par-5 14th hole.

Christian Fanfelle turned in UTSA's second-best round of the day with an even-par 71, which helped the all-conference performer jump into a tie for 32nd. The junior from San Antonio recorded six birdies — three on each side — to help him bounce back from a 78 in Sunday's opening round.

Hunter Bott and Collin Clark also are part of that share of 32nd at 7-over 149 through 36 holes. Bott used a trio of birdies to register a 76 on Monday, while Clark posted one birdie and an eagle on the 560-yard, par-5 first en route to a 77.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday and UTSA will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 9:20 a.m.
