Roadrunners open series at LA Tech with sweep

RUSTON, La. – Kirby Smith had a team-leading 12 kills leading UTSA volleyball to a three-set win at Louisiana Tech (25-17, 25-12, 25-17) on Sunday afternoon in the first of two matches at the Thomas Assemble Center. 
 
UTSA (3-9, 2-5 Conference USA) opened the pair of league matches in Ruston with a three-set win. 
 
The Roadrunners were led offensively by the 12-kill performance from Smith, the 2019 C-USA Freshman of the Year, who added four digs. 
 
UTSA also got double-figure kills from Hunter Coppola, a native of Verona, N.J., and 10 kills from freshman Bianca Ejesieme, a member of the 2020 C-USA All-Freshman Team. 
 
The Roadrunners got a team-leading 15 digs from junior libero Mia Ybarra, who added four assists and a service ace. 
 
Sophomore setter Courtney Walters had a team-leading 33 assists, adding two digs and a block. 
 
Jessica Langridge added six kills in 12 swings, while Alison Jennings finished with five kills. 
 
The series will conclude on Monday at 12 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center in a match broadcast live on CUSA TV.
