Roadrunners topped by Lady Tigers, Cowgirls

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The UTSA softball team fell to 5-5 on the season after dropping decisions to Texas Southern and McNeese on Saturday at the Cowgirl Classic II.
 
Game one: Texas Southern
The Roadrunners were topped by Texas Southern 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
 
UTSA posted four hits with Erykah Guerrero leading the team with two.
 
In the top of the third, Celeste Loughman tripled to center field to tie the school record for career triples with 10.
 
The Lady Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth off an error to get on the board and take the win.
 
Jamie Gilbert pitched 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts and just two hits.
 
Game two: McNeese
UTSA fell to McNeese 3-2 Saturday afternoon on the final day of the tournament.
 
The Cowgirls scored two runs from two hits in the third from to get on the board and lead 2-0.
 
McNeese added another run in the fifth from an error to extend the lead (3-0).
 
In the sixth, Kat Ibarra opened with a double, followed by a single from Celeste Loughman. Both runners advanced on the throw as Loughman reached second and Ibarra scored (3-1). With one out, Kindell Brooks doubled to right center as Loughman scored (3-2).
 
Taylor Medina earned a walk in the seventh, but a double play and a strikeout ended the game.
 
UTSA recorded five hits with Ibarra leading with two.
 
Alexa Williams and Madison Nelson pitched 3.0 innings each with one strikeout.
 
The Roadrunners return to the field on March 12 to take on BYU and Texas State in San Marcos.
