UTSA (4-1) won its second consecutive game to open the series with UTA (4-4), after posting a 13-1 win on Friday night. The series is slated for four games, including a nine-inning nightcap on Saturday and a nine-inning finale on Sunday.
Daughety worked a seven-inning shutout, allowing just five singles and one walk, striking out a career-high nine. He improved to 6-3 in his career and 2-0 in 2021.

Koby Bullard (2-1) took the hard-luck loss for UTA after allowing five hits and three runs over six innings.
The series will resume with the nightcap of the doubleheader on Saturday night, a nine-inning affair.
UTSA struck first in the bottom of the first inning, getting a leadoff single from Kyle Bergeron to leadoff and a knock from Dylan Rock. After the Rock single, the throw back to the infield sailed into the first-base dugout, allowing Bergeron to score and Rock to take third. Ian Bailey followed and lined a single to rightfield, scoring Rock for a 2-0 lead.
Rock was hit by a pitch to open the sixth, moving into scoring position on a single from Bailey and taking third on Nick Thornquist's fly out. Ochoa forced home Rock with a sacrifice fly.
