No. 29 South Florida edges No. 54 UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – Joao Ceolin (Palotina, Brazil) picked up a ranked singles win but No. 29 South Florida outlasted No. 54 UTSA men's tennis, 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

UTSA (10-6) couldn't overcome a double-point loss to South Florida (11-4) to open the match as the Bulls were able to claim key singles wins en route to the win.

"We had a very fun college match today," UTSA head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "It was very close but we couldn't get the double point. We started well in singles and had our chances to certain courts but ended up coming up a bit short. Proud of our who were able to win. We will bounce back on Sunday."

Ceolin improved to 9-3 in singles with the win, topping No. 69 Jakub Wijcik, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Freshman Garrett Skelly (The Woodlands, Texas) improved to 6-1 with a 6-1, 7-6 win on court 6.

Juri Reckow (Hamburg, Germany) saw his 11-match streak of wins in singles snapped on court 1 in a 6-7, 6-4, 10-7 loss vs. No. 45 Chase Ferguson.
