Coe leads team in hits on Saturday

STILLWATER, Okla. – The UTSA softball team fell to the Shockers and Roos on Saturday at the Mizuno Classic.
 
Game one: Wichita State
The Roadrunners came up short to Wichita State after a 3-1 loss Saturday afternoon.
 
In the second, the Shockers scored two runs on three hits to take an early lead.
 
UTSA scored its lone run in the fourth. With one out, Brittany Coe singled up the middle, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tori Villarreal singled to left field as Coe advanced to third. Julia Bumford earned a walk. With bases loaded, Lauren Coerver singled through the right side to score Coe as the Roadrunners trailed 2-1.
 
WSU scored one more run in the fifth to extend the lead back to two, 3-1, and take the game.
 
The Roadrunners recorded seven hits on the day.
 
Tatum Seith earned the start, pitching 4.0 innings with four strikeouts. Makenzie Carpenter pitched the final two innings.
 
Game two: Kansas City
Four runs in the sixth helped the Roos top the Roadrunners 4-1.
 
UTSA scored first with a run in the fourth. Celeste Loughman earned a walk. She then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. With two outs, Brittany Coe doubled to left center as Loughman reached home (1-0).
 
In the sixth, Kansas City scored four runs on five hits to take the lead (4-1) and eventually the game.
 
The Roadrunners posted two hits on the day. Tatum Seith pitched 5.1 innings with four strikeouts. Madison Nelson came in for 0.2 innings with one strikeout.
 
UTSA returns to the field tomorrow to take on Kansas City for the last game of the Mizuno Classic.
