SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team will return to action with its final two home conference games of the regular season, playing host to Southern Miss on Sunday and Monday at the Convocation Center. The series will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday and conclude at 12 p.m. on Monday with both matches broadcast live on CUSA TV.
UTSA (5-9, 3-5 Conference USA) snapped a four-match losing streak with a pair of wins last weekend at Louisiana Tech in Ruston. The Roadrunners posted a 3-0 win on Saturday before fighting back to claim the final three sets on Sunday.
The Roadrunners enter the matchup with Southern Miss having just four conference matches left in the regular season, also facing UAB on March 21-22. UTSA sits in fifth place in the Western Division, trailing fourth place Southern Miss for the final spot in the division for the C-USA Championships.
UTSA has averaged 12.4 kills, 11.6 assists, 1.2 aces, 15.4 digs and 1.6 blocks per set in 2021. Offensively, Kirby Smith leads the team with 2.56 kills per set, adding 2.77 digs per game. Bianca Ejesieme averages 2.36 kills per set, with Hunter Coppola hitting .173 with 2.75 kills per game. Libero Mia Ybarra leads the team with 4.95 digs per set and setter Courtney Walters owns 9.49 assists per set.
Southern Miss (8-5, 3-3 C-USA) will host the C-USA Championships April 1-3 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Golden Eagles come into the matchup having split last weekend vs. UAB at home and last time on the road, swept Louisiana Tech in Ruston Feb. 21-22.
