TULSA, Okla. -- Juri Reckow (Hamburg, Germany) improved to 9-1 with a ranked singles win, leading UTSA men's tennis to a 4-1 win at No. 40 Tulsa, on Friday afternoon at the Case Tennis Center.
"This was a big win for us today," UTSA second-year head coach Sergey Avedyev said. "Tulsa was a very tough team and they never gave up, forcing us to earn every point. I am glad to see the guys see the results of their hard work, on and off the court. It is definitely paying off. It's a very exciting win for us but we have another ranked team (Wichita State) tomorrow. We have to recover and get back to work."
UTSA (7-4) posted a strong win over the 40th ranked team in the ITA rankings, using the doubles point and wins in singles on court 1, court 2 and court 6 to clinch the win.
Reckow improved to 9-1 in singles – matching his 9-0 win total last year in singles – with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win on court 1. Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) picked up a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win on court 2, while Slava Gulin (Moscow, Russia) earned a 6-4, 7-6 win on court 6.
In doubles, Rodriguez and Joao Ceolin (Palontina, Brazil) picked up a 5-3 win on court 1, with Reckow and Gulin earning a 6-3 win on court 2 and Garrett Skelly (The Woodlands, Texas) and Javier Gonzalez (Trujillo, Peru) picking up a 6-1 win on court 3.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Saturday, facing Wichita State in Tulsa.
